For me, there's a couple of things. Siembieda is overly protective of his IP, with a long history of not letting anyone else even mention his games, let alone do anything with them, going back to before the internet. Ironic considering that the core system is basically a set of house rules for Dungeons & Dragons. While some of those house rules were actually quite innovative back when Palladium first started putting out books, now they're really showing their age.
That said, I don't hate Palladium, but neither do I include any of their games in the rather long list of those I'd be willing to play.
